Overview
|
The extensive collection of paintings on this site can be accessed and
viewed in a number of ways as described below. While this site presently
contains 941 viewable paintings, as of yet, not all of the pieces
contain accompanying descriptive text and iconographic interpretations.
This site is a work in progress. We will continue to update and enhance it and will continue to add paintings from collections worldwide.

To View Large Images ("Take a closer look")
|
This Web Site uses Flashpix technology from Live Picture to let you zoom in on each image and see extremely fine details. This feature is simple to use and will greatly enrich your experience here.
On each image page, below the picture you will find the caption, "take a closer look," with two links beneath it. These links will take you to the two types of zoomable image viewers: Java, and Non-Java. The choice is mainly a matter of how fast your computer is. See "Which Viewer Should You Use" at the bottom of this page.

The Controls
Both viewers use the same controls:
- Click + to zoom toward the center of the image
- Click - to zoom back out
- Click RESET to return to the original, full-painting view
- Click on the image itself to zoom in on a certain location
- Click the four arrow buttons to move to a different part of the image. To move toward the top of the painting, click the Up arrow. To move to the right, click the Right arrow, etc.

Which Viewer Should You Use?
If you have a relatively fast computer and a newer browser, you may prefer the Java viewer. The Java viewer allows you to zoom toward a specific region, not just a point: just click and drag a rectangle around the part of the image you want to zoom in on. With a fast computer, scrolling is faster in the Java viewer. Note: You cannot print from the Java viewer.
If you wish to print a painting, use the Non-Java viewer
If your browser does not understand Java, or if you have a relatively slow computer, don't despair! The Non-Java page is compatible with nearly every browser, it loads pictures more quickly than the Java version and it is also a pleasure to use.
